The Classics (MA) is offered by Brock University's Faculty of Humanities and leads to a Master of Arts degree. The program takes a holistic approach to the ancient Greek and Roman worlds, combining the study of languages, literature, and history with attention to historical context, material culture, and active archaeological research, including travel to the Mediterranean. Students choose one of three areas of focus: Critical Ancient Studies, Art and Archaeology, or Text and Culture. The program is offered full-time or part-time with a single intake each September, and can be completed through a Major Research Paper route (five terms, twenty months) or a Thesis route (six terms, two years). Applicants submit an online application, transcripts, two academic references, a letter of intent of up to two pages outlining research interests and a potential supervisor, and a writing sample of no more than twenty pages. Graduates are prepared for further doctoral study or research, teaching, and heritage-sector careers connected to the ancient world.
