Program details

Overview

The diploma centres on building a portfolio and developing a personal style and creative philosophy. A broad first year covers illustration, drawing, printmaking, painting, applied multimedia, and two- and three-dimensional design. In the second year, students choose a specialization and take studio courses taught by practicing artists, working toward an end-of-year exhibition.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Cambrian's page for Design and Visual Arts asks for a 30-credit Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature student status, plus grade 12 English at the College (C) or University (U) level. The program page states explicitly that there is no portfolio requirement for admission, since the first year builds foundational skills for students without prior portfolio experience. No minimum grade or overall average, no criminal-record-check or interview condition, and no English-language test score are stated on the page. Applicants missing the OSSD or English prerequisite can use Cambrian's free Academic Upgrading before enrolling.
