Program details
Overview
The diploma prepares graduates to assess, plan, treat and evaluate care for older teens and adults facing acute, persistent or co-occurring mental health and addiction difficulties. Using a Psychosocial Recovery framework, coursework builds theoretical grounding, assessment skills and counselling interventions aimed at helping individuals and families through recovery, while working collaboratively with people affected by substance use and related difficulties. Applied learning is emphasized throughout, with specific technique development covering motivational interviewing, stage-wise case management, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Interprofessional Mental Health & Addictions Post-Degree Diploma requires a completed bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Child and Youth Care, Education, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, or Social Work; the programme notes that other degrees combined with experience in a helping role may be considered, subject to confirmation with the Program Leader. On top of the credential, applicants must submit a resume listing relevant work and volunteer experience and a 400-500 word statement of intention setting out career goals and motivation for entering the programme. The admissions page publishes no minimum grade point average and no English-language test score (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL); the bachelor's degree itself, from a recognized institution, is the stated entry requirement.
