Bachelor of Social Work is a bachelor's degree in Social Work programme taught at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Canada. The programme runs for 16 months, delivered on campus. Tuition is CAD 26,056 per total for local students.
Cape Breton University's Bachelor of Social Work is a 16-month accelerated, full-time program delivered on campus, with the exception of two field practicums totalling 700 hours: 250 hours in the second term and 450 hours in the fourth. The 60-credit, 17-course curriculum is built around a trauma-informed lens that examines the bio-psycho-social determinants of health, alongside content on reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, decolonization of social work practice, generational dimensions of poverty and addiction, and culturally safe practice. Two optional embedded certificates can be completed alongside the degree. Because the program is accelerated, admission requires an already-completed undergraduate degree of at least 90 credits with a minimum 70 percent average across the last 30 credits, along with a personal statement, resume, and two references. The program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Education. It is designed to produce practice-ready social workers for roles in child welfare, mental health and addictions services, schools, and veterans' services, among other settings serving marginalized communities, and suits degree-holders seeking a fast route into professional social work practice rather than school leavers without prior post-secondary study.
