Overview
The University One for Indigenous Learners Certificate is designed for Indigenous students who want help getting writing, math and study skills up to speed for a post-secondary course. Each course features Indigenous content, including storytellers, guest speakers, field trips and support from Elders. Completing University One will give you 12 100-level credits toward degree, diploma and certificate programs at CapU. The courses cover writing strategies, mathematics and study skills, and include a 100-level elective.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, with English 11, English Studies 12, English 12, or English First Peoples 12 at a C grade or higher. The programme page defers to Capilano's general English Language Requirements for applicants educated in a language other than English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 83, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 56, or Duolingo English Test 125+ (no sub-score below 115). Beyond the academic requirement, applicants complete an interview with the Coordinator and a writing assessment. Grade 12 students may apply for conditional admission on their final Grade 11 and/or interim Grade 12 marks, with final admission contingent on graduation.
