Computer Systems Engineering is a Bachelor of Engineering offered by Carleton University, combining software, hardware and network skills with electives in artificial intelligence, machine learning and web development. Students learn to design, integrate and build devices and complex architectures where computer hardware meets software systems, covering algorithms, network architecture and design needed to build connected, intelligent computer systems. Coursework includes both software- and hardware-focused study, and students gain practical experience with technologies such as robotics and cloud computing in university labs. A paid Co-op option offers work terms of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 months. Students have access to the Systems and Computer Engineering Society (SCESoc) for networking and professional development. Graduates work in fields that integrate software and hardware, including aerospace, autonomous and embedded systems, cloud computing, Internet of Things, robotics, smart cities and telecommunications, near Ottawa's Kanata North technology park.
