The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is a Carleton University degree offered in three specializations: Information Resource Management (IRM), Interactive Multimedia and Design (IMD), and Network Technology (NET). Each specialization is delivered jointly with Algonquin College, so students earn a Carleton degree alongside an Algonquin College diploma: a Library and Information Technician diploma for IRM, an Advanced Diploma of Applied Arts for IMD, and an Advanced Diploma in Technology for NET. The programme is designed to give students the knowledge and practical skills to address current information-technology challenges. IRM combines data analytics and artificial intelligence with library and information science principles; IMD covers computer animation, programming, visual effects, game design and human-computer interaction; NET focuses on network and systems technology. Students in the specializations have access to facilities such as a 24/7 computer lab, a motion capture studio, and a games and graphics lab, with coursework built around industry-standard software. A co-op option is available across the specializations, giving students a head start on their careers through paid work terms of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 months.
