Overview
This program leads to a Graduate Diploma in Migration and Diaspora Studies, delivered on campus at Carleton University in Ottawa. Two diplomas are offered alongside a related Master of Arts: a Type 2 diploma for Carleton students enrolled in another graduate degree program (MA or PhD) seeking a credential that supplements their home degree, and a Type 3 direct-entry diploma for non-Carleton students seeking additional graduate-level credentials for professional or academic purposes. The program brings together academics and practitioners from the humanities, social sciences, and public affairs to examine the cultural, social, economic, and political implications of refugee movements, migration, mobility, and diasporas, using historically informed and forward-looking approaches to cultural and social identity, diversity and integration, exile and memory, forced migration, and refugee communities. Students who perform well may apply their diploma credits toward the Master of Arts program. Entry is offered in the Fall and Winter terms.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants may enter through one of two routes: the Type 2 (Concurrent) diploma, open to students already enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program at Carleton University, or the Type 3 (Direct Entry) diploma, which requires an Honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline with an average of B+ or higher. Applications include university transcripts, an academic letter of recommendation, and a 1-2 page statement of interest.
