Diploma in Police Technology is a diploma in Fire, Justice & Security programme taught at Cégep de Baie-Comeau in Baie-Comeau, Canada. The programme runs for 3 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 7,575 per semester.
Police Technology (310.A0) is a three-year technical DEC at Cégep de Baie-Comeau training students for law-enforcement and community-safety roles, combining patrol, investigation, crime prevention and mediation skills. Coursework covers criminal law and intervention procedures, criminology fundamentals, the legal system, crime-scene investigation, traffic-safety and collision investigation, work with youth and young offenders, mental-health and substance-use awareness, physical intervention and self-defence, and communication techniques for police work. A distinguishing feature of the program is its focus on Indigenous realities and North Shore regional issues, including an exploratory internship across the region's communities. Delivered over six sessions, it suits candidates in strong physical condition who show leadership, autonomy, diplomacy and good judgment under pressure, with people skills suited to both enforcement and community-facing work. Selection weighs academic record, a physical evaluation and psychometric testing, with priority consideration for Côte-Nord and Indigenous applicants.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Cégep de Baie-Comeau admits applicants who hold a Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES, youth or adult sector), or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) plus Secondary 5 language of instruction, Secondary 5 second language and Secondary 4 mathematics, or an equivalent formation (a recognised foreign credential, 30 completed university credits, a 900-hour AEC with demonstrated equivalency, or a Secondary Studies Equivalency Certificate); up to six missing DES units, or one missing DEP subject, can be completed in the first semester. No English or French proficiency test is published; applications go through the Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec (SRACQ). Beyond the general admission conditions, the programme requires Mathematics CST Secondary 4 (code 514) or the adult-sector equivalent. Entry is competitive: applicants must sit a mandatory physical fitness test and psychometric testing, with no exemptions, and are ranked on academic file, physical-test result and psychometric score, with bonus points for the Manicouagan and Côte-Nord regions and for Indigenous applicants. At programme start, students must hold a DES with its five required Secondary 5 subjects and obtain a learner's driving permit in their first session; swimming ability and medical/vision exams are recommended and later mandatory for entry to the Quebec National Police Academy.
