Diploma in Sciences de la nature is a diploma in Natural Sciences & Mathematics programme offered by Cegep de Saint Hyacinthe in Saint-Hyacinthe, Canada. The programme runs for 4 semesters. Teaching is in French. Tuition for international students is CAD 15,150 per year (CAD 3,740 per year for local students).
Sciences de la nature is a pre-university DEC combining a foundational science curriculum (biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics) with a rigorous general-education component to prepare students for university study. Students study the natural world both in the field and in the laboratory, through activities such as freshwater-ecology fieldwork, dissection, and microscopy, and are introduced to general-purpose and specialized software, including Maple for mathematics and Python for computer science. The program gives students access to modern laboratories and to subject-specific help centres, with individual tutoring available on request. It is designed to build the scientific foundation needed for university programs in health sciences or in pure and applied sciences, fields that can lead to teaching, research, engineering work, or working with living organisms in human, plant, or animal health. It suits students planning to pursue university-level science, health, or engineering studies who want a broad, lab-based science foundation alongside a strong general-education program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) with Secondary 5 Technical and Scientific (TS) or Natural Science (SN) mathematics, or Mathematics 536, plus Secondary 5 Chemistry (or Chemistry 534) and Secondary 5 Physics (or Physics 534). As with all Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe programs, admission is processed through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca); a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) is the general entry basis. Applicants whose Secondary 5 written French mark was 65% or below and whose overall average was under 75% are placed in the upgrading course 601-013-HY before taking program-level French; a French-mastery test is required at application for those who did not take regular Secondary 5 French or who studied outside Quebec, and applicants from outside Quebec whose mother tongue is not French must submit an approved international French test (the Cégep recommends Bright) with their SRAM file. Every admitted student also sits an English placement test that sets their starting English course level.
