Diploma in Arts, lettres et communication : option Cinéma at Cegep de Saint Hyacinthe in Saint-Hyacinthe, Canada is a diploma in Film & Animation programme. The programme runs for 4 semesters. Teaching is in French. Tuition is CAD 3,740 per year for local students.
Arts, lettres et communication, option Cinéma, is a pre-university DEC that builds a solid grounding in filmmaking together with critical judgment toward the images students encounter. To broaden their background, students are also introduced to related cultural fields such as art history, literature, and theatre. Each term, students explore a different aspect of filmmaking and complete a film of their own, applying what they learn about video technique, screenwriting, and film creation. The program gives students access to semi-professional cameras, editing suites, screening rooms, and projection rooms, and students can take part in Le Petit répertoire, a free video club with more than 1,200 titles, and in the Festival Vidéostock, an annual gala evening recognizing the best student productions. Placements abroad (stages) can also be arranged. It suits students planning to pursue university studies in cinema, communications, or related creative fields who want hands-on filmmaking experience alongside a broader cultural and critical-thinking foundation before university.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The program states no specific course prerequisite for admission beyond the Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES). As with all Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe programs, admission is processed through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca); a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) is the general entry basis. Applicants whose Secondary 5 written French mark was 65% or below and whose overall average was under 75% are placed in the upgrading course 601-013-HY before taking program-level French; a French-mastery test is required at application for those who did not take regular Secondary 5 French or who studied outside Quebec, and applicants from outside Quebec whose mother tongue is not French must submit an approved international French test (the Cégep recommends Bright) with their SRAM file. Every admitted student also sits an English placement test that sets their starting English course level.
