Overview
Arts, lettres et communication, option Théâtre (Exploration théâtrale), is a pre-university DEC offering a broad range of courses across the different areas of theatre, including acting, set design, dramaturgy, directing, improvisation, and production work, with concepts reinforced through practical, hands-on learning activities. Classes are kept in small groups, which the program describes as fostering teamwork and a strong sense of belonging, creating space for self-expression and communication; acting and production courses are taught in theatre studios equipped with professional stage equipment. Students have access to several extracurricular opportunities, including the Cégeps en spectacle competition (as performer or host), the LICSH improvisation league, the school's own theatre troupe, an annual «Semaine des arts», and productions staged by the college's École de théâtre. It suits students planning university studies in theatre, performance, or related arts fields who want broad, practice-based exposure to acting, staging, and production before specializing further, within a small-cohort, community-oriented learning environment.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The program states no specific course prerequisite for admission beyond the Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES). As with all Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe programs, admission is processed through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca); a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) is the general entry basis. Applicants whose Secondary 5 written French mark was 65% or below and whose overall average was under 75% are placed in the upgrading course 601-013-HY before taking program-level French; a French-mastery test is required at application for those who did not take regular Secondary 5 French or who studied outside Quebec, and applicants from outside Quebec whose mother tongue is not French must submit an approved international French test (the Cégep recommends Bright) with their SRAM file. Every admitted student also sits an English placement test that sets their starting English course level.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international applicants to Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe apply through the shared SRAM portal (admission.sram.qc.ca) serving Montréal-region cégeps. For Winter 2027, applications opened 15 September 2026, Round 1 closes 1 November 2026 and Round 2 closes 25 November 2026, with unfilled seats carried forward. SRAM has not yet posted Fall 2027 domestic dates. Internationally, SRAM's Fall 2027 window runs 15 March 2026 to 14 March 2027; its next window (Winter 2028) runs 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027. Admission is rolling by round, not a single fixed date. The college's own site confirms SRAM processes all Montérégie cégep applications, and flags that Interprétation théâtrale requires auditions ahead of the SRAM application. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
