Program details

Overview

Techniques de génie mécanique (241.A0) is a technical Diploma of College Studies (DEC) at Cégep de Thetford focused on mechanical design and industrial production. Students learn technical drawing and 3D CAD modelling, machine-tool operation on both conventional and CNC equipment, statics and dynamics, hydraulics and pneumatics, automated control systems, welding and metal fabrication, and quality control in manufacturing. The program runs six semesters over three years and includes two paid alternance travail-études internships placed in industry. After the first year, students receive an intermediate attestation that allows entry into related employment before continuing their studies. Training takes place in specialized workshops equipped with machining and welding equipment, including robotic welding technology. Graduates go on to work in engineering firms, manufacturing, aerospace, and metallurgical companies, or continue into university mechanical engineering programs with some credit recognition. The program suits students who enjoy hands-on problem-solving, design work, and mechanical systems, and who want combined classroom, laboratory, and workplace training rather than a purely theoretical route.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Techniques de génie mécanique applies Cégep de Thetford's general DEC admission conditions (a DES or DEP, including Secondary 5 French, Secondary 5 English and Secondary 4 Mathematics, with upgrading courses possible for a DES holder missing those units) and additionally requires one of: Secondary 4 Mathématiques technico-sciences or Sciences naturelles, or Secondary 5 Culture, société et technique, together with Secondary 5 Physics; or Mathématiques 526 and Physique 534; or their adult-sector equivalents. The program's page states no minimum grade average, language test, portfolio or interview requirement; the Tremplin DEC bridging pathway is available for an applicant missing a prerequisite.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ) in successive rounds: for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027 (with later rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August), and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026 followed by rounds on 1 December and 1 January. International applicants apply directly to the college for Fall entry only, with a hard deadline of 1 February 2027; applications are processed on a continuous basis between September and February of the intake year, and French nationals may be eligible for later dates. Domestic admission proceeds through rounds so later applicants are still considered while seats remain, while the international Fall deadline is firm. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
