Overview

Sciences de la nature (200.B1) is a pre-university Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered by Cégep de Thetford. The program provides broad training in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer programming, combining lecture-based courses with laboratory work across four semesters. Students carry out field-based scientific activities, such as outdoor water-quality assessment, and have opportunities to work alongside regional research centres during their studies. An elective course allows for scientific exploration abroad. The standard path runs two years, though a lighter three-year schedule is available without affecting eligibility for university admission. The curriculum is designed to build the scientific and analytical foundation required for further study in health sciences, pure and applied sciences, and engineering. It suits students with a strong interest in science and mathematics who intend to pursue university programs such as medicine, kinesiology, nutrition, architecture, or various engineering and actuarial disciplines. As a pre-university DEC, the program does not include work placements; it instead concentrates on preparing students academically for competitive university admission processes in science-based fields.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission runs on Cégep de Thetford's general DEC admission conditions: a Secondary School Diploma (DES) or Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP), including Secondary 5 French (language of instruction), Secondary 5 English (second language) and Secondary 4 Mathematics; a DES holder missing those units may be assigned upgrading courses. On top of that, Sciences de la nature requires one of: Secondary 5 Mathématiques technico-sciences or Sciences naturelles, Secondary 5 Chemistry and Secondary 5 Physics; or Mathématiques 536, Chimie 534 and Physique 534; or their adult-sector equivalents. No minimum grade average, language test, portfolio or interview is stated; an applicant short a prerequisite can complete it through the Tremplin DEC bridging pathway (one to three sessions) before starting the program.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ) in successive rounds: for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027 (with later rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August), and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026 followed by rounds on 1 December and 1 January. International applicants apply directly to the college for Fall entry only, with a hard deadline of 1 February 2027; applications are processed on a continuous basis between September and February of the intake year, and French nationals may be eligible for later dates. Domestic admission proceeds through rounds so later applicants are still considered while seats remain, while the international Fall deadline is firm. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
