Program details

Overview

Techniques de génie du plastique (241.B0) is a technical Diploma of College Studies (DEC) at Cégep de Thetford covering the design, production, and quality control of plastic products. Students work with processes including injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, thermoforming, rotomoulding, and 3D printing, and study materials science alongside product design and production optimization. The program runs six semesters over three years, with roughly half of the training delivered in industrial settings: this includes access to an on-campus production facility built to resemble a plastics plant, visits to industry partners, and two paid alternance travail-études internships completed over summer periods. No particular campus specialization is indicated beyond the main site. The program suits students interested in industrial design, materials, and manufacturing who want practical, production-oriented training. Graduates are prepared for direct employment across sectors that use plastics manufacturing, including automotive, aerospace, medical device, and consumer goods companies, or may pursue further study in mechanical or automated production engineering at university.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Techniques de génie du plastique states that the only condition specific to the program is holding a Secondary School Diploma (DES): 'la seule condition exigée...est le diplôme d'études secondaires,' with no further course prerequisite of its own. This sits within Cégep de Thetford's general DEC admission conditions, which for a DES holder require Secondary 5 French (language of instruction), Secondary 5 English (second language) and Secondary 4 Mathematics, with upgrading courses possible if those units are missing; a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) is also accepted under the general conditions. No minimum grade average, language test, portfolio or interview is stated for this program.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ) in successive rounds: for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027 (with later rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August), and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026 followed by rounds on 1 December and 1 January. International applicants apply directly to the college for Fall entry only, with a hard deadline of 1 February 2027; applications are processed on a continuous basis between September and February of the intake year, and French nationals may be eligible for later dates. Domestic admission proceeds through rounds so later applicants are still considered while seats remain, while the international Fall deadline is firm. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
