This three-year DEC trains metallurgical engineering technologists in the processes used to transform and manufacture metal products, including welding, heat treatment, alloy development, and hot and cold metal forming. Students learn to apply quality-assurance techniques such as microstructure validation by microscopy, chemical-composition analysis by spectrometry, and mechanical-properties testing to ensure manufactured parts meet specification. The program puts materials science, chemistry, and physics theory into direct laboratory practice, building skills in process development and chemical and metallurgical analysis suited to problem-solvers interested in how metal products are engineered and validated. Courses are delivered at the college's La Baie campus. Graduates are prepared for technologist roles in metal-transformation plants, foundries, and quality-control laboratories across the metallurgical and manufacturing industries, applying both hands-on fabrication skills and analytical testing methods to support production and quality assurance.
