Program details

Overview

Leading to a DEC in Graphisme (code 570.G0), this program develops students' visual perception and creative communication skills across print media such as posters, brochures, magazines, and packaging, digital media such as interactive documents, websites, and app interfaces, and audiovisual work such as motion design. Students work through the design process from concept to finished output using software including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects, supported by a printing lab, Macintosh and PC workstations, and a screen-printing workshop; the program describes a deliberate approach to incorporating AI tools into the creative process. In the third year, students take on real client mandates involving visual identity and advertising campaigns intended to prepare them for professional practice. It suits students interested in applied visual communication across traditional and digital formats rather than fine-art illustration alone. Described career paths include roles at advertising, communication, and design agencies, publishers, manufacturers, and community organizations, as well as freelance and self-employed graphic design work. Graduates may pursue university studies in graphic or communication design, UX design, advertising and marketing, communications, animation, or photography, subject to admission requirements.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Cégep du Vieux Montréal's page for Graphisme (570.G0) states no course-specific prerequisites beyond the college's general admission conditions; both this programme's admission page and the institution's general admission page direct applicants to admission.sram.qc.ca. The academic basis is therefore a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) or Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP), having completed the standard secondary language, second-language and mathematics courses, or an equivalent Canadian diploma such as the Ontario Secondary School Diploma; SRAM ranks candidates using Secondary 4 and 5 grades and subject averages, with advanced math or science selection earning a bonus. Applicants without French-language schooling in Quebec must pass the college's own French-proficiency test; no pass mark is published on CVM's page. International applicants need a diploma equivalent to the DES — 11 to 13 years of schooling, or the baccalauréat route for candidates from French-medium systems — plus this programme's own prerequisites, apply through the same SRAM portal for a CAD 85 fee, and must obtain a CAQ and study permit before enrolling.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM): for Fall 2027 entry the online system opens mid-January 2027 and the round-one deadline is 1 March 2027, 11:59 p.m., with responses around 5 April and further rounds running into late May while places remain; Winter 2027 entry is already open, with a round-one deadline of 1 November 2026. International applicants follow a separate SRAM timeline: applications for Fall 2027 opened 15 March 2026 and close 14 March 2027, while Winter 2028 applications open 1 June 2026 and close 31 May 2027. Admission is not open-ended rolling, but SRAM runs successive rounds for as long as places remain. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
