Overview
Computer Systems Technology – Analysis and Design is a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma at Sheridan College focused on information systems, with an emphasis on systems analysis and design. In the first four semesters, students gain hands-on experience in programming, web development, database management and networking. The final year covers advanced technical topics and professional skills, including a capstone project solving real-world problems for community clients such as non-profit organizations, small businesses, charities and local governments. Students may complete up to three co-op work terms, providing up to 12 months of practical industry experience. Graduates can apply to bridge into Year 3 of Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Computer Science (Mobile Computing) or Honours Bachelor of Information Sciences (Cyber Security) degree programs, combining technical development skills with systems analysis and design capability for careers in information systems.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent including one English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U), and one Math, Grade 12 (C or U, with a minimum 70% if presenting Math MAP4C) or Math Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U) or Functions and Applications (MCF3M), or mature student status for applicants aged 19 or older who lack the prerequisites. Mature students may be required to complete tests in English, math and/or science, or take Sheridan's free Academic Upgrading program; applicants asked to take the OCMA math test require a minimum 70% passing grade. Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement, using the average of their six highest senior-level credits including required courses, and/or the results of pre-admission testing. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan's institution-wide English Proficiency Requirement for certificate and diploma programs: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT overall 80 (no section below 20), PTE Academic overall 58 (no section below 49), or Duolingo English Test overall 105 (no sub-score below 85).
