Overview
This two-year diploma trains students to design, draft, cost, and manage construction of infrastructure projects such as buildings, roads, and bridges. The first year covers foundational building science, 2D and 3D drafting, structural and geotechnical engineering, construction estimating, and project scheduling; students then choose one of three second-year majors, with selection based on first-year cumulative GPA. The Virtual Design and Construction major focuses on advanced construction communication technology and digital drafting, with design delivery moving from 2D to 3D using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The program includes a capstone project requiring research, proposal development, and presentation to faculty and industry guests. It is nationally accredited at the technologist level by Technology Accreditation Canada, and graduates are eligible to join the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals in Alberta. Graduates with a minimum 2.3 cumulative GPA may apply to SAIT's Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management. The program runs on the Main Campus with fall and winter intakes each year.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants educated in Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and meet the following requirements or equivalents: at least 60% in Math 30-1; at least 60% in English Language Arts 30-1 or at least 75% in English Language Arts 30-2; and at least 60% in Science 30 or Physics 20. SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside of Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide proof they meet the program's admission requirements through an international document assessment.
