Overview
Arts, lettres et communication, option Langues is a pre-university DEC option centred on English- and Spanish-language culture from around the world. Students produce and share artistic and literary projects in French, English, and Spanish, and the option introduces translation, language-learning strategies, and basic notions of linguistics. As with the college's other Arts, lettres et communication option, coursework also builds critical-analysis skills applied to cultural works and develops students' writing through literary creation. Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu's page describes access to specialized spaces such as a multifunctional classroom and a modern-languages lab, opportunities to meet people from various cultural and artistic circles, and outings to venues including theatres, museums, and dance performances. Students build a portfolio of their projects and a learning journal (cahier d'apprentissage) documenting their progress. Québec and Canadian applicants apply exclusively through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM, admission.sram.qc.ca); for fall entry the first round closes March 1 (with possible second and third rounds), and for winter entry the first round closes November 1. International applicants must show the equivalent of eleven completed years of schooling, evaluated by the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI) or by SRAM; the Cégep recommends the Bright test at level C1 (at least 4.0 on the CEFR scale), filed in the SRAM dossier. Applications go through SRAM's international-candidates section with card payment online; for fall entry the window opens March 15 of the prior year and closes March 14, and for winter entry it opens June 1 two years before and closes May 31 one year before. The Cégep typically replies three to eight weeks after a complete file is submitted.
