Program details

Overview

Sciences de la nature is a pre-university DEC that develops scientific aptitude through coursework and laboratory work across biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu's page notes the program offers more biology coursework than most other cégeps and gives students access to modern, specialized laboratories. Students take a science-focused programming course to learn coding fundamentals, and can personalize their path starting in the second year by choosing between a Sciences de la santé stream and a Sciences pures et appliquées stream. The first session includes reduced class hours alongside support workshops covering organization, stress management, and the college's R-score system. The program also offers optional enrichment courses in areas such as astronomy and astrophysics or everyday chemistry, and students can take part in extracurricular scientific activities including conferences, math competitions, and field outings. A Double DEC option lets students pair this program with Arts, lettres et communication, option Langues. It suits students planning to pursue university studies in health sciences or pure and applied sciences who want a strong laboratory-based foundation before choosing a specific science-related university path.
