Program details

Overview

Techniques de génie mécanique is a technical DEC that trains students to move from conceptual design to a finished mechanical product, developing skills to support engineers in the design and manufacturing of a range of products and mechanisms. The program offers two specializations: design (conception) or manufacturing (fabrication). Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu's page describes enhanced training in automation and robotics, access to workshops equipped with tools meeting industry standards, and use of a range of current design software. Students have worked on projects such as an all-terrain vehicle, a go-kart, and mountain bikes as part of their studies. The program is offered through an Alternance travail-études (ATE) formula, which lets students work in the field for paid periods while continuing their studies, and the page mentions the possibility of completing a placement in France. It suits students who are curious, creative, and hands-on, interested in understanding how mechanical products and systems are designed and built, and who want practical exposure to both design and manufacturing sides of mechanical engineering technology.
