Overview

The Education Assistant (EA) Certificate prepares you for a career in supporting students with diverse needs in K-12 classrooms. Courses have been designed to incorporate a high degree of discussion and interaction between students, and instructors are actively involved in guiding learning. In addition to your coursework, you will have the opportunity to participate in supervised, hands-on practice in public or private K-12 classrooms through school-based practicum placements.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Education Assistant Certificate requires a minimum grade of C+ (65%) in one of English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, or Provincial English (Literature-based). The program's calendar entry lists no further course prerequisites or non-academic conditions and states no international-student language-test score for this certificate. Applicants whose first language is not English are subject to College of the Rockies' general English proficiency requirement: TOEFL iBT overall 80, IELTS Academic overall 6.0 (no band below 6.0), CAEL-CE overall 60, or PTE Academic overall 56, or an equivalent English 12 course combined with the required years of English-medium instruction, as set out on the institution's admissions pages.
