The Timber Scaling Micro-credential is an industry-driven program designed to address a labour shortage in the forestry sector within the East and West Kootenay and the broader BC Interior. The program prepares students with the knowledge and skills required to write the BC Timber Scaling Exam to become skilled timber scalers — professionals responsible for accurately measuring and grading timber to determine volume, quality, and commercial value under Provincial standards.
The Education Assistant (EA) Certificate prepares you for a career in supporting students with diverse needs in K-12 classrooms. Courses have been designed to incorporate a high degree of discussion and interaction between students, and instructors are actively involved in guiding learning. The one-year Science Certificate prepares you to further your studies in the College’s Associate of Science degree and/or a bachelor’s degree at one of COTR's partner institutions. Domestic students can start this program in September, January, or May, whichever is a better fit for you. Take a year to explore the sciences and find out what interests you most from fields like Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Math, Physics, and Statistics.
The Recreation Management Diploma covers a broad range of courses directly related to the recreation industry, as well as management-oriented courses such as: accounting, communications, business management, programming, and marketing. Fondational courses are augmented with industry specific coursess and a work placement provides opportunity to gain hands-on-experience in recreation. It is recommended that domestic students take the co-op work term, while our international students complete the work practicum.
Recreation programs create opportunities for people to be active, offering communities many enjoyable ways to stay healthy. Individuals, communities and government organizations are all focusing on ways to help provide healthier choices. You can also take your credits to the next step by continuing on to complete the Recreation Management Diploma.
The Pre-Education Certificate gives you the opportunity to get a taste of the academic courses required to pursue a Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor of Arts degree. All of the courses in the certificate are approved by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch. Courses can also transfer to many universities in BC and Alberta or be used as electives for an arts and science diploma or an associate of arts degree.
The Practical Nurse Diploma prepares you to give professional care to individuals and families in a variety of health care delivery settings. Upon completion of your second year, you will be eligible to write the Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse. You are then able to apply to be registered with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in order to become licensed as a Practical Nurse.
