The Special Needs Educator Diploma is awarded upon successful completion of an Early Childhood Education certificate or equivalent, plus the required courses in the Special Needs Educator program. The program provides the opportunity for you to work while going to school. If you choose to work as an Early Childhood Educator, you should: be caring and have the desire to make a difference in the lives of children, use Positive Guiding Strategies, and have strong communication skills with children and parents of various cultural backgrounds.

Admission Requirements: The Early Childhood Education: Special Needs Educator Diploma requires a minimum grade of C+ (65%) in one of English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, or Provincial English (Literature-based), plus an Early Childhood Education Specialty Certificate or a certificate in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college (via the Child, Youth and Family Studies program). Applicants must also submit the CYFS Application package, complete required immunizations or an immunization waiver (lack of immunizations may affect practicum placement and later employment), demonstrate a good command of oral and written English, and pass a Solicitor General Criminal Record Check, noting that a criminal conviction may affect access to practicum placements and subsequent employment.
