Program details
Overview
College of the Rockies' Electric Vehicle Maintenance Technology Associate Certificate prepares certified Red Seal Automotive Service Technicians and Level 3/4 apprentices to safely service high-voltage electric and hybrid vehicles. The program runs in two parts: a 6-hour, self-paced online module on high-voltage safety procedures and vehicle categories, completed before a face-to-face session, followed by classroom and shop-based training at Pinnacle Hall on the Cranbrook campus. In-person modules cover high-voltage charging systems, transmission types, temperature-maintenance systems, maintenance procedures for high-voltage vehicles, and battery-electric vehicle technology and service. Students must supply their own CSA-approved steel-toed boots and safety glasses for shop sessions. Graduates come away able to use category-3 meters and insulated tools, test and replace high-voltage batteries and relays, and support the growing electric-vehicle segment of the automotive repair trade.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Electric Vehicle Maintenance Technology Associate Certificate requires applicants to already hold Red Seal certification as an Automotive Service Technician, or to have completed Level 3 of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Program; the program page states no other academic prerequisite courses or grades and no minimum GPA. No dedicated English-language proficiency test score is published on the program page; as a short add-on credential building on a completed trade qualification, applicants would already have met College of the Rockies' general admission English standard (for example TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS Academic 6.0) at their original point of entry. The page links to the academic calendar for its complete admission and course-completion requirements but does not reproduce them there.
