Overview
The Hairstylist Foundation is a 43-week pre-apprenticeship programme at College of the Rockies that prepares students for entry-level hairstylist positions and Level 1 of the Hairstylist apprenticeship. Instruction combines classroom theory with practical training in the college's functioning hair salon, delivered by Red Seal certified instructors, and includes a three-week practicum in a registered salon. The curriculum covers hygiene, sanitation and disinfection practices, use and maintenance of tools and equipment, client service, hair and scalp care, cutting, styling, chemical waving and relaxing, hair colouring and lightening, specialised services, and business management, alongside Basic First Aid and WHMIS certification. On completion, graduates receive Level 1 Technical Training credit from SkilledTradesBC toward the Hairstylist apprenticeship, a Certificate of Completion, a College of the Rockies certificate, and credit for 1,290 hours of work-based training. The programme suits people who enjoy working with their hands, want to care for others, and are interested in starting or running their own business rather than working a conventional desk job. It functions as an entry point ahead of employer-sponsored apprenticeship training.
Application Deadline:Domestic and international applicants to College of the Rockies both apply through EducationPlannerBC. For the 2027-28 academic year the general application window opens 1 November 2026, and applications received by 28 February 2027 get priority processing for Fall 2027 entry; admission is otherwise rolling with no fixed closing date. International applicants get a decision about two weeks after a complete application, with no separate published international deadline. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry: its window runs 1 November 2026 to 15 February 2027, with final transcripts due 28 February 2027 for Fall 2027 admission. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
