College of the Rockies offers Trades - Apprenticeship in Carpenter: Apprenticeship, a trades - apprenticeship in Trades programme in Cranbrook, Canada. The programme runs for 7 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 900 per total for local students.
This programme provides the in-class and shop-based technical training component of the four-level Carpenter apprenticeship at College of the Rockies, for apprentices currently employed and sponsored by an employer through SkilledTradesBC registration. Each level runs for several weeks, complementing the on-the-job training that makes up most of the overall four-year apprenticeship. Level 1 covers hand and power tools, building codes, surveying, rigging, concrete formwork and wood-frame construction; Level 2 covers advanced power tools, reading construction drawings, site layout, finishing materials and building science; Level 3 covers stair and roof systems and interior and exterior finishing, including thermal and acoustic control; and Level 4 covers building codes, site preparation, specialised framing, renovations, timber construction, deck building and interior finishing. Completion leads to Red Seal certification, recognised nationally. Graduates go on to work with construction companies, contractors, maintenance departments, cabinet makers and disaster restoration firms, with potential to advance into supervisory, management or business-ownership roles. The programme is intended for registered apprentices continuing sponsored training rather than for new entrants to the trade.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to Carpenter: Apprenticeship at College of the Rockies runs through the SkilledTradesBC apprenticeship system: applicants must already be working in the trade and have an employer sponsor who registers them with SkilledTradesBC. The program page does not publish its own academic prerequisite courses, grades, or admission average, referring applicants instead to the level-by-level outlines in the college's academic calendar, which are not reproduced on the program page itself. Because the program page states no separate English-language score, College of the Rockies' general admission standard applies: TOEFL iBT overall 80 (minimum Reading 13, Writing 21, Listening 12, Speaking 18), IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 6.0, CAEL-CE overall 60 with no sub-score below 60, or PTE Academic overall 56; equivalents include English 12 or an approved alternative at the required grade combined with sufficient English-medium schooling, or 65% in BC English 12 for study completed in Canada. Applicants apply online through EducationPlannerBC and pay the non-refundable application fee before submitting transcripts and proof of English proficiency.
