Overview
The Welder Foundation is a 28-week pre-apprenticeship programme at College of the Rockies that prepares students for entry into the welding trade through classroom theory, demonstrations and hands-on practice in a fully equipped industrial welding shop, taught by Red Seal certified instructors. The curriculum covers cutting and gouging using oxy-fuel and plasma processes, oxy-fuel welding and brazing, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), semi-automatic and automatic welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), along with basic metallurgy and welding layout and fabrication, plus Workplace Hazardous Materials, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Basic First Aid training. On completion, students receive Level 1 and Level 2 Technical Training credit from SkilledTradesBC, a Certificate of Completion from the Industry Training Authority, a College of the Rockies certificate, and credit for 300 hours of work-based training. High school students can take the programme through the Youth Train in Trades dual-credit pathway. The programme suits people interested in hands-on trades work, including outdoor employment, and leads toward employer-sponsored apprenticeship and eventual Red Seal certification.

For the 2027-28 academic year the general application window opens 1 November 2026, and applications received by 28 February 2027 get priority processing for Fall 2027 entry; admission is otherwise rolling with no fixed closing date. International applicants get a decision about two weeks after a complete application, with no separate published international deadline. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry: its window runs 1 November 2026 to 15 February 2027, with final transcripts due 28 February 2027 for Fall 2027 admission.
