Overview
This programme delivers the technical training component of the four-level Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) apprenticeship at College of the Rockies, for apprentices employed and sponsored by an employer through SkilledTradesBC registration, combining classroom and shop instruction with the on-the-job training that forms most of the overall apprenticeship, typically completed over about four years. Level 1 covers hand tools, measurements, shop machines, mobile equipment, and welding processes including SMAW, oxy-fuel and plasma arc cutting; Level 2 covers fits and tolerances, lubricating systems, rigging, alignment, hydraulics, and additional welding processes; Level 3 covers dial and laser alignments, fans, pumps, compressors, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems; and Level 4 covers conveying systems, turbines, motors, engines, preventative maintenance, vibration analysis and robotics. Completion leads to Red Seal certification, recognised across Canada. Graduates find work in manufacturing, utilities, industrial plants, ski hills, mines, logging and municipalities, with potential to advance into director or management roles. The programme is intended for registered apprentices continuing sponsored training rather than new entrants to the trade.
