Diploma in Soins infirmiers

Soins infirmiers is a DEC nursing program at Cégep de Shawinigan built around the nursing care process and the therapeutic nursing plan, combining foundational knowledge with supervised, real-context patient care. Students take on clinical responsibility for patients from admission through to the end of treatment under teaching-staff supervision, and complete clinical placements across units including medicine, surgery, emergency, maternity, pediatrics, psychiatry, and geriatrics. The page describes placements beginning as early as the first session, along with training at a clinic-school called Clinique-école santé Énergie and access to a Centre virtuel d'immersion clinique, a simulation lab with high-fidelity mannequins that the college presents as a leader among Quebec collegial nursing simulation facilities. Anatomy instruction is delivered at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières anatomy centre, and the program notes collaboration with the college's paramedic and medical-laboratory-technology programs, culminating in a large interprogram simulation exercise near the end of studies. International cooperation missions are organized roughly every two to three years. A DEC-BAC pathway connecting the diploma to a university nursing degree is available.
