Overview
Soins infirmiers (180.A0) is a technical Diploma of College Studies (DEC) at Cégep de Thetford that prepares students for direct nursing practice. The curriculum covers human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, patient communication, pediatric and perinatal care, mental health, geriatric care, emergency response, and professional ethics, combining classroom instruction with laboratory simulation using high-fidelity mannequins. The program runs six semesters over three years and includes more than a thousand hours of supervised clinical placements beginning in the first semester, carried out in hospital units, CLSCs, long-term care facilities, maternity wards, operating rooms, emergency departments, and outpatient clinics. Students who wish to continue to university can pursue DEC-BAC agreements with partner universities toward a bachelor's degree in nursing science. The program suits students who want to enter direct patient-care roles quickly and prefer a mix of theoretical study with extensive hands-on clinical experience across varied healthcare settings, while retaining the option to pursue further university study later.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Beyond Cégep de Thetford's general DEC admission conditions (a DES or DEP, including Secondary 5 French, Secondary 5 English and Secondary 4 Mathematics, with upgrading courses possible for a DES holder missing those units), Soins infirmiers requires Secondary 4 Science et technologie and Science et technologie de l'environnement, or Secondary 4 Applications technologiques et scientifiques and Science et environnement, or Sciences physiques 436, or their adult-sector equivalents. A candidate who has not completed Secondary 5 Chemistry must complete it during the first year at the Cégep or through adult education. No minimum grade average, language test, portfolio or interview is stated; missing prerequisites can otherwise be made up through the Tremplin DEC pathway.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ) in successive rounds: for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027 (with later rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August), and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026 followed by rounds on 1 December and 1 January. International applicants apply directly to the college for Fall entry only, with a hard deadline of 1 February 2027; applications are processed on a continuous basis between September and February of the intake year, and French nationals may be eligible for later dates. Domestic admission proceeds through rounds so later applicants are still considered while seats remain, while the international Fall deadline is firm. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
