Overview
The Health Care Assistant Diploma is a two-year, on-campus program at Selkirk College with a Fall intake, designed for international students seeking to work in health care and community support. The program combines theoretical coursework with hands-on, practical experience in health care settings, including long-term care facilities and community organizations. The curriculum emphasizes cultural competence and an understanding of diverse health care systems, preparing graduates to work within multicultural environments. Training spans both years of the diploma, pairing classroom learning with applied practice relevant to British Columbia's health care and community support sector. Graduates emerge from the program with the qualifications needed to contribute to health care and community support services, and the diploma may make graduates eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP).
