Program details
Overview
Soins infirmiers (Nursing) is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Cegep de Rimouski that prepares students to work within multidisciplinary healthcare teams across hospitals, community clinics and long-term care facilities. Core competencies include assessing clinical situations, determining and following up on nursing care and treatment plans, and administering nursing and medical treatments. The program blends classroom instruction, practical lab activities and clinical placements, with the share of clinical placement time increasing significantly by the third year, and covers subjects such as human anatomy, pharmacology, emergency response, mental health, pediatric and perinatal care, and healthcare ethics. High-fidelity simulation mannequins support immersive lab training, and the program offers an optional international clinical placement in Morocco during the final semester, along with DEC-BAC pathways to university nursing degrees. The program suits students aiming for a career as a registered nurse and preparing for the provincial licensing examination administered by the Ordre des infirmieres et infirmiers du Quebec. Admission requires a Secondary V diploma with the required science prerequisites, including chemistry, plus current vaccination records for clinical placements.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission runs through Quebec's collegial admissions portal (SRACQ); applicants who meet the published requirements are generally admitted, and anyone missing a prerequisite can complete it through the Tremplin DEC pathway before starting the program. Required: a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) or its equivalent, plus Science et technologie together with Science et technologie de l'environnement (4th year secondary), or Applications technologiques et scientifiques together with Science et environnement (4th year secondary). Chemistry (5th year secondary) is expected; students who have not completed it are still admissible but must take it during their first year. Students must keep their immunization record up to date to access clinical placements, and placement sites may run a criminal background check that can bar access to a site; the Cégep cannot guarantee a placement, and without one the diploma cannot be issued. No language-proficiency test, portfolio, or interview is published.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ): for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027, with further rounds in May, June and August, and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026, with further rounds in December and January. International applicants apply through SRACQ's separate international-student portal, but Cegep de Rimouski publishes no fixed international closing date, and requires a 7,000 CAD pre-admission deposit before issuing an admission letter. Domestic admission proceeds through successive SRACQ rounds rather than one hard cutoff, so later applicants are still considered while seats remain; no international deadline is published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
