Overview
This Bachelor of Arts in Études françaises (French Studies), offered by Concordia's Department of French Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science, covers the French language, literature and translation, with course options for both beginners and francophone speakers. Students choose an academic path in Langue française, Littératures de langue française or Traduction, available as a Specialization (60 credits), Major (45-48 credits) or Minor (24 credits); a standalone Certificate in Langue française (30 credits) is also offered for those seeking a shorter program. Full-time study takes a minimum of three to four years (90-120 credits), depending on the student's academic background, with classes held on the Sir George Williams campus in Montreal and entry in the Fall or Winter term. The curriculum combines language courses in French grammar and structure with the study of Francophone literature, scholarly texts and research writing. The program includes a conversation-based language-learning component, student trips around Quebec, and the Reussir en francais support service, which helps students prepare for the Test de connaissance du francais pour le Quebec (TCFQ).
