Program details
Overview
The MA in Applied Linguistics examines how languages are learned and used and the roles languages play in society. Coursework is organized around three clusters: language description, second-language acquisition and learning theories, and second-language pedagogy. Students complete 45 credits over a nominal two years of full-time study, combining seminar coursework with a research component. The program suits graduates from second language acquisition, applied linguistics, education, or related disciplines who want to study language teaching, learning processes, and the social functions of language. Graduates receive a Master of Arts (MA) from Concordia University's Department of Education. The credential prepares students for further doctoral study or for professional roles in language teaching, curriculum development, and language policy. Instruction takes place on Concordia's Sir George Williams (SGW) campus in Montreal.
