Program details

Overview

The PhD in Humanities is an interdisciplinary doctoral program based in Concordia University's Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture (CISSC) and can be pursued across many areas of interdisciplinary expertise at the university. Students entering with an MFA or another graduate degree may pursue a research-creation project that combines scholarly investigation with creative practice across a variety of media and platforms, in addition to the standard research-thesis stream. The program brings together faculty from across Concordia's humanities and fine arts departments to supervise projects that do not fit within a single discipline. The degree requires 90 credits and has a nominal full-time duration of four years, based at the Sir George Williams campus. New students are admitted in the fall term only.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants normally require an MA or MFA, with high standing, from a recognized university. Applicants proposing research-creation work submit a portfolio along with their research or research-creation proposal. Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate that their knowledge of English is sufficient to pursue graduate studies.
