Overview

This Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering is a thesis-based program offered by the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, one of only two such PhD programs in Quebec. Research areas include transportation systems, supply chain management, stochastic optimization, quality control, revenue management, and lean systems design. The degree requires 90 credits: 12 credits of coursework drawn from engineering and computer science and software engineering courses, 8 credits covering a comprehensive examination, doctoral research proposal, and PhD seminar, and 70 credits of doctoral research and thesis work. The program typically takes four years to complete on a full-time or part-time basis, with entry available in the Fall, Winter, or Summer term. Funding packages, including awards and teaching or research assistantships, are generally available to students in this thesis-based program.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a master's degree or equivalent with high standing in engineering or computer science, or in a cognate discipline. Holders of a bachelor's degree only will be considered for direct admission to the master's program, with the option to apply to the PhD after completing at least one term of full-time study. Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate that their knowledge of English is sufficient to pursue graduate studies; the program follows Concordia's standard graduate English-proficiency requirement of IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with no band below 6.5, TOEFL iBT 95 with no section below 20, or Duolingo English Test 120. Application deadlines for Canadian residents are July 1 (Fall), November 1 (Winter), and March 1 (Summer); U.S. and international applicants should apply by March 1 (Fall), July 1 (Winter), or November 1 (Summer).
