Overview
The Graduate Diploma in Community Economic Development is a one-year, 30-credit program for students who want to work in social justice, civic engagement and community economic development. Delivered on Concordia's Sir George Williams campus, the program combines coursework in community economic development theory, community organizing and social innovation with field projects carried out alongside local organizations. It is offered in English beginning in the fall of even-numbered years. Applicants need either a bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 2.70 plus at least one year of experience in community economic development, or a minimum of five years of experience in community economic development, community organizing or social movements without a postsecondary degree. All applicants must show a basic understanding of what community economic development involves. Graduates receive a Graduate Diploma and are prepared for roles in community development organizations, non-profits and related public-sector work.
