Program details

Overview

General Arts and Science - One-Year is a two-term Ontario College Certificate delivered in hybrid format at Conestoga's Kitchener - Doon campus, offering a flexible starting point for recent high school graduates and mature learners. Students strengthen writing, communication and research skills, critical thinking, academic reading and digital literacy while examining contemporary global and social issues. The certificate leads into the two-year General Arts and Science diploma and other Conestoga programs, with potential credit transfer to the University of Waterloo or other universities.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-student status at 19 years of age or older, plus Grade 12 compulsory English at the C or U level or equivalent, or Conestoga's Preparatory Communications course (COMM1251). The admissions page defers its language-test score to the college's English Language Proficiency Requirement rather than stating one itself; for certificate programs that policy sets IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 80 (no skill below 20), PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo 110. The page also states that a sound English background is important for success and is considered during admission selection, with unspecified minimum cut-offs applying. Applicants holding transcripts from outside Canada, or from institutions where English was not the language of instruction, must obtain a course-by-course credential evaluation from an approved service such as ICAS or WES before their application can be assessed.
