Overview
Visual Merchandising Arts is a two-year Ontario College Diploma at Conestoga College combining creative and technical skills for retail display and brand presentation. Students work across window displays, prop making, graphic design, floral design and photo styling alongside the planning side of merchandising, including floor planning, planogramming, branding and e-commerce presentation. The program is delivered through a hybrid format and uses project-based, hands-on learning throughout, with students building a portfolio of merchandising and display work. In the second year, students complete a field placement that provides industry experience in a retail or merchandising environment, applying classroom skills to live commercial settings. Coursework blends studio-based design projects with business-oriented merchandising topics so graduates can plan, design and execute in-store and online visual presentations. Graduates typically pursue careers as visual merchandisers, display coordinators, store planners or e-commerce merchandisers with retailers, design studios and brand agencies.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature student status (19+); Grade 12 compulsory English at C (65%) or U (55%), or Conestoga Preparatory Communications (COMM1251). Applicants with international transcripts require a course-by-course credential evaluation, and those from non-English-instruction backgrounds must demonstrate English language proficiency.
