Overview
Mechanical Technician - General Machinist (Optional Co-op) is a two-year, skills-based Ontario College Diploma delivered in person at Conestoga's Cambridge - Reuter Drive campus. The program prepares students for the general machinist skilled trade and related manufacturing careers, including study of computer-integrated manufacturing applications, and covers all learning outcomes for Levels 1 and 2 of the related Ontario apprenticeship - graduates may not need the in-school apprenticeship training for those levels. Students can apply to the optional co-op stream in the second term.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Conestoga's Mechanical Technician – General Machinist diploma requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature student status for applicants 19 or older by the program start. English: Grade 12 Compulsory English at C or U, or equivalent, or Conestoga's Preparatory Communications course (COMM1251). Mathematics: Grade 12 Mathematics at C or U, or equivalent, or Conestoga's Preparatory Mathematics (MATH1420). The admissions page notes that manual dexterity is required for success, and that students must provide CSA-approved (Omega symbol) footwear and safety glasses. Continuing into the optional co-op requires a minimum 65% session weighted average plus successful completion of two specified machining courses. Applicants whose prior education was not delivered in English must demonstrate proficiency under Conestoga's general policy; no specific IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score is published on this page.
