Overview
Construction Techniques - Brick and Stone is a one-year (two-term) Ontario College Certificate delivered in person at Conestoga's Waterloo campus. At the college's dedicated Masonry Centre, students learn to construct walls and architectural features using brick, stone and other materials, training with advanced power tools and traditional hand tools while gaining exposure to heritage restoration, refractory masonry, and modern residential and commercial construction. Instruction comes from experienced journeypeople in the masonry trade.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-student status for applicants 19 or older; the program page lists no further named Grade 11 or 12 subject requirement for direct OSSD entrants. Mature students must instead demonstrate readiness for post-secondary study either by passing equivalency testing in English and Mathematics or by completing academic upgrading (Conestoga's Preparatory Communications COMM1545 for English, Preparatory Mathematics MATH1691 for Math). The English-language requirement is Conestoga's institution-wide standard for diploma and certificate programs, applied where transcripts are not in English: IELTS Academic overall band 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no skill below 20, PTE Academic 53, CAEL 70 overall with Writing 60 and no sub-test below 30, or Duolingo 110. Canadian applicants with foreign transcripts require assessment by ICAS or WES.
