Overview

Mechanical Technician - Tool and Die/Tool Maker (Optional Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma delivered in person at Conestoga's Cambridge - Reuter Drive campus. Students learn high-precision techniques used to produce stamping dies and mechanical components, developing problem-solving and alignment skills for entry into the tool and die or tool maker trades or a manufacturing apprenticeship. The program includes Level 1 and Level 2 apprenticeship training equivalencies, and a paid co-op option is available.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Conestoga's Mechanical Technician – Tool and Die / Tool Maker diploma requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature student status for applicants 19 or older by the program start. English: Grade 12 Compulsory English at C or U, or equivalent, or Conestoga's Preparatory Communications course (COMM1251). Mathematics: Grade 12 Mathematics at C or U, or equivalent, or Conestoga's Preparatory Mathematics (MATH1420). Academic strength is calculated from these marks with ten additional bonus marks added for each Advanced-level, OAC, U, U/C or post-secondary course used. Continuing into the optional co-op requires a minimum 65% session weighted average plus successful completion of Precision Machining Theory II (MACH1965) and Precision Machining Practice II (MACH1975). Applicants whose prior education was not delivered in English must demonstrate proficiency under Conestoga's general policy; no specific IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score is published. International transcripts require credential evaluation.

Start Date: Intake months: May and September. Start dates listed by Conestoga on 6 September 2026, for domestic and international applicants alike: September 2026 and May 2027 at Cambridge – Reuter Dr. An individual campus intake may already be closed.
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca (college code CONS): for the Fall 2027 intake the online application opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, offers may be issued from 1 November 2026, and accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027; most oversubscribed programs stop accepting applications after 1 February 2027, though many programs remain open afterward. Conestoga does not publish a separate equal-consideration date for its January intake. International applicants apply directly to Conestoga and are assessed on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis until each program fills; no fixed international closing date is published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
