Overview
Powerline Technician (Optional Co-op) is a skills-based, two-year Ontario College Diploma delivered in person at Conestoga's Ingersoll skills training centre. Students train in a dedicated on-site powerline yard with real industry equipment and vehicles, learning to build, maintain and repair overhead and underground power distribution systems. With strong co-op opportunities and hands-on training, the program positions graduates to begin an apprenticeship as a Powerline Technician (434A) in the electrical utility industry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic entry: an OSSD or equivalent, or being 19 or older, with Grade 12 English (C or U) or Preparatory Communications (COMM1251), and Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U) or Preparatory Mathematics (MATH1420). The college strongly advises applicants to be free of any fear of heights or of confined spaces, noting that either can prevent employment in the field, and to build and keep a good level of physical fitness because co-op employers may ask for a fitness certificate from an approved testing facility. Students supply their own CSA-approved footwear carrying the omega symbol and must buy a mandatory tools and equipment package used both during the program and afterwards, over and above program fees; that package cost $4,878 in 2025. Attendance at classroom and practical training is treated as essential, with industry standards of punctuality and safety expected. International applicants: Conestoga's standard diploma and certificate English minimums apply - IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no skill below 20, PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo 110. Anyone holding transcripts from outside Canada, Canadian citizens and permanent residents included, needs a course-by-course credential evaluation from a service such as ICAS or WES, and must show English proficiency if the language of instruction was not English.

Start Date:Intake month: September. Start dates listed by Conestoga on 6 September 2026, for domestic and international applicants alike: September 2026 at Ingersoll. An individual campus intake may already be closed.
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca (college code CONS): for the Fall 2027 intake the online application opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, offers may be issued from 1 November 2026, and accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027; most oversubscribed programs stop accepting applications after 1 February 2027, though many programs remain open afterward. Conestoga does not publish a separate equal-consideration date for its January intake. International applicants apply directly to Conestoga and are assessed on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis until each program fills; no fixed international closing date is published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
