Overview
As a student in the Woodworking Technician program, you will study at one of the most advanced woodworking training facilities in North America. You will receive a solid foundation in the skills and technology involved in the manufacture of furniture, cabinets and architectural millwork, as well as training in modern manufacturing techniques. During the first year of the program, which is common with the Woodworking Technology program, you will spend a significant amount of time learning the set-up and operation of woodworking machinery and equipment, laminating, veneering, machining, sanding, assembly and finishing. The second year, which is also common with the Woodworking Technology program, involves extensive project work, introduction to production management skills, manufacturing of kitchen cabinets and architectural millwork. Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the trade schooling for an Ontario cabinetmaker apprenticeship are embedded in the program and this will provide you with a recognized advantage when starting your career. You may be exempt from apprenticeship in-school training should you choose to pursue a Cabinetmaker Apprenticeship. Co-op affords students the opportunity to relate in-school training with real industrial experience. The optional co-op stream includes one co-op work term in the spring semester between years 1 and 2 of the program.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or applicant age 19 or older with mature-student status. Conestoga asks for Grade 12 compulsory English at C or U level, or equivalent, or its own Preparatory Communications (COMM1251), plus Grade 12 Mathematics at C or U level, or equivalent, or Preparatory Mathematics for Trades (MATH1420). The minimum academic strength considered for admission is 60%, calculated by averaging the required subject marks, with an additional ten points added for advanced-level, OAC, U, U/C, or post-secondary coursework. Applicants whose prior instruction was not in English must demonstrate English-language proficiency; the programme page does not itself publish a domestic test-score table, so evidence follows Conestoga's general English-proficiency policy, and Canadian citizens or permanent residents with transcripts from outside Canada need a course-by-course credential evaluation from a service such as ICAS or WES.
