Overview
Interactive Media Management - Interaction Design is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate at Conestoga's Waterloo campus. The program builds practical user experience (UX) design skills applicable to digital products such as websites, apps, wearables, smart products, and AR/VR applications, covering how to create, analyze, evaluate, and simplify digital interactions. Through project-based learning completed individually and in teams, students combine visual design, research, writing, ethics, business, and IT elements to develop evidence-based, human-centred design solutions for a range of business challenges, from brand loyalty to accessibility and profitability. Faculty with industry experience guide students as they build a portfolio of original work, and a field placement gives students the opportunity to apply their skills in a workplace setting. The program is intended for graduates of design, media, computing, or related diploma and degree programs, or those with relevant work experience, preparing them for careers in UX and interaction design.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a two- or three-year diploma or a degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, or a minimum of five years of related full-time work experience. Preference may be given to applicants from design or illustration backgrounds, including graphic design, web design, interactive design, or broadcast media/technology programs, as well as applicants from computer programming, computer science, or engineering programs. Related full-time experience may include work as an illustrator, artist, graphic designer, web designer, packaging or industrial designer, programmer, design engineer, communications professional, or in human resource management, training, or education; such applicants must submit a resume and work-related references. Canadian citizens and permanent residents with transcripts from outside Canada require a course-by-course credential evaluation through a provider such as ICAS or WES. Applicants whose prior instruction was not in English must demonstrate English language proficiency per Conestoga's institution-wide requirements for degree and graduate certificate programs (IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 88, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 120).
