Sustainable Urban Design is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate delivered full-time at Conestoga's Guelph campus. The program examines how cities, towns and communities can be planned and built to reduce environmental impact while supporting long-term social, economic and cultural benefits for residents. Coursework covers the physical, economic and environmental systems that shape community design, with an emphasis on creating healthy, livable places. Students study urban planning principles, transportation design and land-use planning alongside sustainability considerations. The two-term program is intended for graduates of a related diploma or degree in fields such as environmental sciences, architecture, urban planning or engineering who want to specialize in sustainable community design. Graduates are prepared for roles in urban planning, urban design, transportation planning and land-use planning, working across government agencies, planning firms, engineering firms, architecture firms and non-profit organizations.
