Overview
Physiology and Biophysics (MSc) is a thesis-based graduate program delivered in person by Dalhousie University's Department of Physiology and Biophysics, in the Faculty of Medicine, collaboratively administered with the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The program develops understanding of how biological systems function at the cellular, tissue, and organ level, with five research concentrations: cardiovascular physiology, neuroscience, endocrinology and neuroendocrinology, molecular and genetic physiology, and respiratory physiology. The standard length is two years or longer, full-time. Admission requires a Bachelor of Science honours degree or equivalent, and a minimum GPA of 3.7 (or A- equivalent) over the applicant's last 60 credit hours of study, or extensive prior research experience in place of the GPA threshold. International applicants must meet the department's own English-language test minimums, which include IELTS 7.5, TOEFL iBT 100 (or 4.5 overall on the new 1-6 scale for tests from January 2026), MET 64, CAEL 70 with no band below 60, and PTE Academic 68; test scores are valid for two years from the test date.

The department publishes its own English-language minimums: IELTS 7.5, TOEFL iBT 100 (or 4.5 overall on the 1-6 scale for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026), MET 64, CAEL 70 with no band below 60, EAP Level 2 Grade A, and Pearson PTE Academic 68, valid for two years from the test date.
