Biology (MSc)

This thesis-based Master of Science (MSc) in Biology immerses students in Dalhousie's research community, providing training in core scientific skills, exposure to a broad range of research activities in biology, and the opportunity to pursue an individual research project under faculty supervision. The program runs a minimum of two years of full-time study, with part-time study also available, and is delivered in person on the Halifax campus. Students complete graduate coursework alongside an original thesis defended before a supervisory committee. Admission requires applicants to meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies' minimum requirements together with program-specific requirements set by the Department of Biology. Graduates of the program go on to careers as university researchers and professors, government scientists with agencies such as Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environment Canada, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry scientists, museum curators, conservation professionals, and environmental consultants.
